It's been a labour of love for us over the years, continues Geoff, when a house has such a good provenance it's imperative to work within the parameters of the original design. We were so fortunate that many of these original features were still there and, as the house is so flexible, we were able to blend a modern family life within the fabric of the building. Our family has grown as the house has grown and developed too. One of the key modern touches was to extend the kitchen into the huge space we have now - it's the heart of the home and perfect for family gatherings and parties. It's become a wonderful home for entertaining and we've had many memorable celebrations here.

One of the most innovative areas of the house is the large basement apartment that has room for a study or a gym, a games room and wine cellar as well as extensive living space. It only needs a kitchen to be installed and the entire basement area could be easily transformed into very spacious living accommodation, adds Trish. It would be ideal for an extended family and as there's a separate front door, they can live quite independently.
The garden is a manageable size with the added bonus of a 'secret garden' complete with fountain, arbor and Victorian planting - ideal to escape from the rigours of the day, and as it is gated it's a private place allowing the visitor to rest in peace and tranquillity.
