DESCRIPTION
The Priory, believed to have been built in the 18th Century, sits on the edge of a cobbled square and opposite the medieval Middleham Castle. Renamed The Priory Red Cross Castle, during 1914 and 1915, the house was used as a military hospital to treat wounded soldiers returning from fighting in the First World War in Belgium. There is a small door set in the rear garden wall which was used to bring, in secret, wounded soldiers so as to prevent the people of Middleham from witnessing the casualties of the War being brought back from the frontline.

COACHHOUSE COTTAGE
