We've got a lot of space here, explains Michael. The house is perfect for entertaining with lots of grand rooms typical of a Victorian property. We even have a ballroom - it was installed around 45 years ago and we've been able to use the room both for work as well as for functions. It's been the ideal space for business meetings and seminars and whenever there's been a family celebration we've rolled back the carpets and hosted some incredible parties in here - the ballroom just astounds all our guests, it's quite a talking point.

Our children, and now our grandchildren, have loved living here as there is so much space for them to use and explore, adds Sue. The attics, which are designed like a suite of rooms, are a teenager's kingdom and the 2 staircases fascinate the grand-children no end, just using them to go up one and down the other is a popular game in itself. Our home has heard and seen a lot of laughter and joy. Some original features retain that echo a bygone age at The Parks, for example, the pantry is covered in Welsh slate slabs (the original Victorian 'refrigerator') and hooks are still in situ where pheasants, grouse and other game would have hung. The 'motor house', as it was once called, has been transformed into a modern garage that has a one-bedroom apartment above that would be perfect for the extended family to use or as a holiday let.

Our space extends into the garden too, continues Michael, apart from the three outbuildings which are great for storage or work-shop space, there's about an acre of land that we've made full use of with a large garden that's perfect for a picnic or to sit and relax in. The lawn leads you down into the orchard and a vegetable patch and we must have at least 50 mature trees surrounding us. It makes for a lovely and picturesque landscape. The children have always enjoyed playing out here and we've organised some very successful days in the garden for local charity events. We can cope with large numbers of visitors as the 'in and out' drive has sufficient space for at least 12 cars. It's been a most accommodating and fun home to live in and we can only hope that the next family will love the house like we have.
