Description:

An imposing Grade II listed stone built and thatched residence occupying a prominent position within this unspoilt part of the town. Occupying a prime location near the edge of the town yet within easy access of the central facilities this important property provides well maintained character accommodation and a delightful walled rear garden. Yet it still provides a new owner with a certain amount of scope to fulfil their dreams of creating an idyllic Cotswold home.

Description

Chipping Campden is an old wool market town of the North Cotswolds, famous for the curving High Street and mellow stone architecture. Sitting in a fold in the hills and straddling the River Cam the town has changed little over recent years and is still the focus for much of the local rural community and outlying villages. Schools, shops, churches and the library all serve the local community together with hotels, restaurants and many clubs and societies.

The larger towns of Stratford-upon-Avon, Cheltenham and Evesham provide a greater selection of shopping together with cultural and recreational facilities. The countryside surrounding the town is justifiably regarded as some of the prettiest in the country.

Westington is the name given to this attractive area of the town situated at the bottom of Conduit Hill. The area is well known for a delightful array of period architecture and thatched cottages that creates some of the prettiest views in the whole Cotswolds.

Woodroffe House is Grade II listed and described as a picturesque stone built thatched property built in the Seventeenth Century with modernisation carried out by the current owners that include the addition of much secondary glazing to the charming leaded windows and a small extension to the dining room from which to enjoy the pretty gardens. Notable features include the drip moulds and tall ashlar chimney stacks. The listing also notes the restoration and addition to the original accommodation carried out by C R Ashbee for his friend Paul Woodroffe the stained glass artist, after whom the house is now named. Woodroffe's stained glass work features in many Churches across the country and parts of the United States of America as well as several private houses in Chipping Campden. In 1992 Woodroffe's work was featured on a Royal Mail stamp whilst within the house a window to the front gable includes a floral feature with Latin inscription by Paul Woodroffe.
