Description:
AN IMPOSING AND SUBSTANTIAL DETACHED GEORGIAN PERIOD HOUSE REQUIRING A SYMPATHETIC SCHEME OF REFURBISHMENT TOGETHER WITH A FORMER COACH HOUSE AND EXTENSIVE GARDENS IN A PRESTIGIOUS TOWN LOCATION, JUST OUTSIDE THE LOOP OF THE RIVER SEVERN.
LOCATION
From the town centre proceed over Kingsland Bridge and continue to the 'T' junction. Turn left along Kingsland Road and at the top of the bank turn right onto Luciefelde Road. The property will then be seen after about 50 metres on the left hand side.
SITUATION
Conveniently positioned in one of the towns most sought after areas, on the fringe of Kingsland, just outside the loop of the River Severn. Within walking distance of the town centre via Kingsland Bridge, including an excellent range of shops, social facilities and restaurants. Walks through The Quarry and along the river bank are only a short distance away. Close by is the tennis club, rowing club, bowling green and an excellent selection of schooling including the Girls High School, Shrewsbury School, Shrewsbury XI Form College and Meole School. There is also a rail service to Birmingham, Chester and Crewe, whilst road links are readily accessible to the M54 motorway/Telford, Wolverhampton and the West Midlands conurbation. Access north can also be gained to Chester and Manchester/Liverpool.
HISTORY
Luciefelde House offers a rare opportunity, in a prime position, to acquire a detached Georgian period house, circa 1824, believed to have been built by William Leighton, keeper of the Talbot Hotel, Shrewsbury, when following his death the property was passed on to his son William Allport Leighton (1805 - 1889), who was a contemporary of Charles Darwin. Leighton and Darwin are also believed to have had a common interest in natural history and both graduated at Cambridge together. Leighton also wrote The Flora of Shropshire. After Leightons death, Luciefelde House was sold and in the 1930s, the original and much larger gardens, then were sub-divided into building plots. The house was also altered around this time.
DESCRIPTION
Luciefelde House retains much of the character and flow of a substantial Georgian house, with attractively proportioned rooms, high ceilings and naturally well lit by tall sash windows. The original entrance, facing onto Luciefelde Road, is believed to have been altered and now forms the pantry, whilst the present main entrance is now to the rear. The accommodation also features generous size cellarage, a fine 180 degree staircase with galleried landing. The various domestic rooms may provide scope for modification to suit individual purposes. On the first floor there are three particularly good size bedrooms - with bedroom 2 having been sub-divided from its original layout to provide a dressing room and scope for an en-suite. There are an additional two bedrooms which interconnect.
There is a lovely sweeping driveway passing beneath a rather grand Beech Tree. Adjacent, to the west elevation of the house is a most interesting former Coach House which offers excellent scope for numerous uses - subject to the necessary planning consents, including office suite, granny annexe, workshop, studio or garaging.
.
The gardens have in the past been a glorious feature to the property and with previous owners having a specialist interest in botany, there are an unusual and extensive selection of specimen trees.
