Description:
Cromwell Barn is a beautifully presented Grade II listed converted barn believed to date back to 1623, situated in the sought after village of Neston. The deceptively spacious accommodation is arranged over three floors and retains lots of character and period features throughout to include large open fireplaces, exposed beams and sash windows. Accommodation comprises large entrance hall, shower room, sitting room with working brick fireplace, dining room with a further attractive fireplace, kitchen, four good sized bedrooms and family bathroom. The property boasts a lovely wrap around garden laid mainly to lawn with a large listed stone outbuilding which has huge potential for conversion. Whilst being immaculately presented the property still offers scope for further improvements to include converting loft space into an en-suite and incorporating the outbuilding with the main house. These changes would all be subject to gaining planning permission but permission and listed buildings consent have previously been granted. Further benefits include high ceilings, gas central heating and ample parking to the side.
NESTON SITUATION
Neston is a popular village with country walks close by. Neston has a good community spirit and boast excellent primary school, pre school, village hall, church and chapel and the welcoming Neston Country Inn. Nearby the Neston Park Farm shop and cafe provides organic meat from the estates own farm. Two miles to the north the market town of Corsham is home to a wealth of beautiful and historic buildings, supermarket, range of specialist shops, sports and leisure facilities and tempting places to eat and drink. Five miles to the east the National Trust village of Lacock boasts the 13th century Abbey and gardens and good selection of pubs, restaurants and tea shops. More comprehensive amenities can be found at Chippenham (about 6 miles) and the Georgian city of Bath (about 9 miles). London to the east and Bristol to the west can be reached via the M4 junctions 17 and 18. The mainline rail link to London from Chippenham takes approximately 1hr 20 minutes.
PROPERTY HISTORY
The property is believed to have been built in 1623 as a barn forming part of Westfield (later Westwells) farm, and there is evidence of two cart entry points to enable wheat threshing inside. It was once called Cromwell's Barracks and troops from the Parliamentarian army are said to have been billeted under its roof during the civil war, while Oliver Cromwell stayed nearby. The style of the conversion suggests it became a house in the late 18th Century, over 200 years ago, and it retains attractive features from a range of periods.
