BRIEF HISTORY

Bearing a date stone and Cheetham family crest, the house one views externally was built in 1714 although there are clear signs that there was an earlier dwelling on the site, possibly dating as far back as the Jacobean period. The building we see today was based on a model used for Northern Parsonages at that time, indeed The Bronte Parsonage in the Village of Howarth, built some 50 years later conforms to the same model both internally and externally. The Parsonage was the home of the curates/parsons of the Turton Chapel of Ease until the late 1800's although at this time time the building had become dilapidated and was sold into private ownership. Thankfully, The Old Parsonage became Grade ll listed in 1967 therefore protected for future generations to treasure.



THE SETTING

The hamlet of 'Overhouses' is a hidden gem, situated on fringe of the much admired village of Chapeltown, far from the hustle and bustle of daily life yet within easy reach of schools, rail network and everyday amenities.
