orchard they have picked 30 pounds of plums as well as gooseberries and raspberries. The house was built for the late Lord Hervey Rhodes, a Labour MP for Ashton-under-Lyne, Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire from 1968 and Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester from 1974. In 1972 he was made a Knight of the Garter. It was after his death in 1987 at the age of 92 years, that his former home was sold to the present
owners.
