Arguably one of the areas most quintessentially English villages, Rampton, Cambridgeshire is a pretty hamlet located between Willingham and Cottenham some 7 miles north west of the city of Cambridge. In the heart of the village a variety of established homes overlook the triangular green with it's smattering of mature Horsechestnuts and traditional pond. Beyond this attractive focal point lie further distinctive homes, rambling lanes and gently rolling fields; unspoilt, rural and perhaps bordering on quaint. Facilities and amenities are somewhat limited although The Black Horse public house and Rampton Motors both enjoy enviable reputations and loyal patronage. But perhaps commercial diversity and keeping up with the Joneses is not quite what Rampton is all about. The village has a gentle, lazy atmosphere where relaxed living and time to unwind abound. The surrounding countryside - and in Rampton this is never far away - has some superb circular walks including Giants Hill, a 14 acre site of archaeological and wildlife interest. All Saints Church is also tucked away in a wooded setting and is believed to date back to the twelfth century. It is also the only thatched church in Cambridgeshire still in regular use.
