Housel Bay is situated at the southern tip of the Lizard Peninsula, the most southerly point of mainland Britain and, with the exception of parts of the Isles of Scilly, is the southernmost part of England jutting out into the sea where the Atlantic Ocean and the English Channel meet. Approximately mile distant is Lizard Village itself, which provides a range of amenities including post office, food store, butchers, gift shops and a primary school amongst many others. A more comprehensive selection of amenities can be found at Helston approximately 12 miles distant.
Lizard Point is for many ships the starting point of their ocean passage and a notorious shipping hazard. Since 1751 there has been a lighthouse on the point warning ships of the dangers of this beautiful but treacherous coastline. The Lizard is the turning point for one of the world's busiest shipping lanes with a variety of ships both large and small passing and visible on a daily basis.
From Lizard Point the coastal path can be followed to the east or west. Eastward, the path passes the lighthouse and the Lloyds signal station as it makes its way along the cliffs towards the fishing village of Cadgwith. Westward, it passes Kynance Cove and there are splendid views over Mount Bay towards Lands End as it heads for Mullion and Gunwalloe.

DIRECTIONS
From Helston follow signs to The Lizard. On approaching the village, take the left hand fork signposted to Housel Bay and follow this road until taking a left hand turn signposted Housel Bay Hotel.
