We are delighted to offer for sale an attractive stone built three bedroom detached home together with a superb Victorian walled garden currently used as a nursery/tea room business and farm shop.
Bradley Garden House was formerly the head gardeners cottage which formed part of the nearby Bradley Hall Estate. With just over two acres of landscaped gardens and grounds the business has earned an excellent reputation and the opportunity exists to further expand the enterprise, with the possibility of a retail area, subject to planning permission.
History:
The house and gardens feature on the 1857 Ordnance Survey map and form part of Bradley Park which is on the English Heritage Register of Parks and Gardens. Archive records relating to Bradley Hall reveal a productive walled garden and vinery certainly in existence by 1850. In its heyday in the early 1900s a staff of seven gardeners would have supplied a constant stream of produce to the main house.
Probably around 1905 the former glass houses were torn down, and replaced with the magnificent structure which exists today. This was built by Richardsons of Darlington, a prestigious company now better know as Amdega Conservatories.
The current owners and their predecessors have improved the house, replanting the gardens and establishing a small high quality plant nursery. The tea rooms were opened in 2000, the kitchen was then added and the facilities have been upgraded. In the last year a farm shop has been opened which sells an ever expanding selection of locally sourced food.
Described by Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council as a hidden treasure, the conservatory and walled gardens have recently been added to its list of buildings with special local architectural and historical interest.
Location:
Bradley Gardens is situated to the South of Wylam and benefits from brown tourist signs from the A695 Ryton bypass which offers access to Gateshead and Newcastle upon Tyne and a conurbation with a population of approximately 450,000. There is good access via the A695 to the adjacent conurbations of Tyneside including Newcastle Airport.
Directions:
Follow the A695 from Hexham, continue through Riding Mill and Stocksfield, continue round the Prudhoe bypass, go down the hill and turn left signposted Bradley Garden House. Travelling North on the A1(M) take the slip road signposted A695, continue along for approximately 5 miles and then turn right signposted Bradley Gardens.
