Completely renovated in 2009/2010, this Grade II listed stone built period cottage is located in an elevated position above the East Allen River and surrounding woodland, within easy access of the town centre, also with access to countryside walks and cycle routes. The property enjoys an off-road parking space to the front and an enclosed garden with log store and patio area enjoying the outlook. The property is currently set up as a luxury holiday cottage and would equally be suitable as a permanent village home. The accommodation enjoys double glazing throughout and briefly comprises entrance hall with stairs to first floor and doors to cloakroom, attractive dining kitchen and cosy living room with stone fireplace incorporating a multi-fuel boiler stove. On the first floor are two charming bedrooms with exposed beams and a fabulous modern bathroom. Character features include Kirkstone slate flooring, exposed stone work, beams and latch wooden doors.
Location:
Allendale is one of Northumberland's most attractive market towns, nestling in the picturesque East Allen Valley and within the North Pennines area of outstanding natural beauty. The town hosts a village shop, tea-rooms, gift shop, art caf, award-winning Co-Op store, brewery, butchers, church, chapel, chemist, library, Post Office, bank and several pubs, including The Kings Head and The Hare and Hounds Inn. Lying around 11 miles from Hexham, the town was originally founded on a thriving lead mining industry 200 years ago, but its history can be dated back to the Romans. Now famous for its 'Tar Bar'ls' parade on New Year's Eve, the town exemplifies what rural Northumberland is really about. Allendale has a vibrant community with annual beer, music and flower festivals, and is also the centre for the popular Allendale Challenge - a 25 mile walk over the mixed Northumberland terrain taking place in April.
Directions:
Take the A686 just East of Haydon Bridge, signposted to Alston. After 2.5 miles turn left onto the B6295 (shortly after the Langley Castle Hotel and Langley Sawmill). Go across a staggered crossroads. Then join the B road (B6304) from Hexham, following the signs to Allendale. Just after Catton the road forks. The main road goes straight on, but we suggest you take the right fork (to Thornley Gate), down to and over the River Allen. At the crossroads after the river, turn left towards Allendale, and go down the hill. Bridge End Cottage is on the right-hand side, just beyond a minor road (where the road bends left shortly before the second bridge over the Allen and up into Allendale.)
